With the passing of a dearly beloved one, we all too often look back on our lives and the time we spent with them. We question our behavior; did we spend enough time with them or could we have done more to show them our love? In the case of Magnolia Clack, our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, I sincerely hope that this amazing woman left this mortal world knowing how much she was and still is loved by everyone around her. We all have specific memories of our loved ones; the ones that make you laugh, cry or both. They can be so vivid as though you are living it in real time. The memories of my grandmother come to life when I tell my children of the many adventures we have had together. Our adventures would sometimes start by going to the store, maybe just to get ice cream, and before we knew it we were driving on roads we’ve never been just to see where it went. I was never afraid that something bad was going to happen. We were adventurous and living in the moment and that’s just one of the many things my Grandma taught me. She wasn’t afraid to live and take chances; and even though her dreams were large, she always kept her feet planted firmly on the ground. My grandma wasn’t afraid to love, this is evident by the many people that surrounded her throughout her life. She was a strong, independent woman during a time that demanded she be unassuming and compliant. From the outside, it may appear that she lived this modest, ordinary life but for the women in her life she showed us how to live outside the box and challenge the true meaning of our roles in this world. I may miss seeing your beautiful face today but I will always have your amazing spirit to guide me. I love you, Grandma.
